City of Kranj won two awards for digital solutions

Last night, ten awards of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, DigiVzornik.si 2023, were presented at the Casino Hall of the Slovene National Theatre Maribor for outstanding contributions to the digital transformation of society and the economy in Slovenia. The City of Kranj was the only municipality to receive two awards, for the city's data platform and the digitisation of the public procurement process for foodstuffs.

The City of Kranj competed for the Digivzornik.si 2023 title in two categories and was recognised by the Ministry of Digital Transformation in both categories. In the category Path to Smart Society 5.0, it competed with the project Catalogue of Food for Public Procurement. With this project, Kranj aims to increase local food self-sufficiency and the use of locally produced food in public institutions, especially schools and kindergartens. The municipality has partnered with the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry - Chamber of Agricultural and Food Enterprises, which has developed the product. The Catalogue, which acts as a digital platform, lists suppliers with the products and attributes needed for public procurement. It also provides an overview and calculations of all the foodstuffs procured, in particular the proportion of organic foodstuffs procured.

According to the jury, the project demonstrates innovation in all its elements, including sustainability and resilience, and in particular it enables the provision of quality and safe food.

The second prize was awarded to the City of Kranj for the City Data Platform project. "The project contributes to the optimisation and simplification of processes, promotes equality of opportunity for all and the inclusion of vulnerable groups, and is geared towards the objectives of achieving climate-neutral and smart cities," the jury judged. The digital platform provides the municipality with a powerful new tool that will, on the one hand, offer better city management and, on the other, give citizens a data-driven overview of the work of the administration and the state of the city. The data collected is or will be available to public service providers and the interested public, allowing the development of new and innovative solutions based on real data. The content is constantly being added to and will be further developed and enhanced in the coming years.

"This is yet another confirmation that we are on the right track and that we are delivering on one of the priority strategic goals of Kranj - to become an innovative, smart and climate-neutral city. We are developing digital and sustainable solutions, advanced services and tools that will make it much easier for citizens to use public services and to live in Kranj in general. In parallel with the digital platform, we are also intensively developing the city card system and I believe that we will continue to be a good role model for those who want to successfully follow the path towards digitisation and sustainable city management. For the last few years, we have been invited to national and international high-profile events to present our examples of good practice," said Matjaž Rakovec, Mayor of the City of Kranj.

"The areas in which the expert jury selected digi role models are not random. They are priority points of our overarching strategy Digital Slovenia 2030 and, when linked, form the whole of the digital transformation of our society and economy," Minister Dr Emilija Stojmenova Duh said at yesterday's award ceremony. In addition to public recognition and appreciation for outstanding contributions, the awards also aim to encourage future innovations in digitisation, she said. "Modern technologies help us to be more creative, free, collaborative and in solidarity."
