The Hungarians paid tribute to Sándor Petőfi in Kranj

This year marks the two-hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi. His statue stands on the alley of Prešeren's contemporaries in La Ciotat Park in Kranj. To commemorate the 200th anniversary, the Hungarian Cultural Society in Ljubljana organized a cultural event in the park in the center of Kranj.

In mid-March, in collaboration with the Hungarian embassy, the City of Kranj erected a bust of the contemporary of France Prešeren, Sándor Petőfi (1823-1849), in La Ciotat Park in Kranj. This year marks 200 years since the birth of this great Hungarian poet, who, as noted by the Hungarian Cultural Society in Ljubljana, was exceptionally talented and prolific in his short life.

The Hungarian Cultural Society in Ljubljana and passers-by paid tribute to the poet on the first Saturday of June this year, on the 200th anniversary of his birth. They laid a laurel wreath at the statue. The program was enriched by the musical group TBX-Band from the Hungarian city of Kecskemét, who set Sándor Petőfi's poems and those of his wife, Julija Szendrey, to music. The program was also attended by the Hungarian ambassador to Slovenia, Andor Ferenc Dávid.
