City of Kranj takes part in the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels

Mayor Matjaž Rakovec and Tomaž Lanišek, Head of the Office for Development and Smart Community at City of Kranj (COK), responded to an invitation to participate in the European Week of Regions and Cities, which is taking place in Brussels these days. They took part in one of the round tables on the theme of Climate Neutral and Smart Cities Missions, and the mayor in the first meeting of the Advisory Group of Mayors of Mission Cities.

The European Week of Regions and Cities is the biggest annual event in Brussels dedicated to cohesion policy. Through a series of round tables, lectures and similar events, different speakers and participants discuss the common challenges facing Europe's regions and cities and seek or already reveal solutions to them.

The morning panel 'Climate Neutral and Smart Cities: From Planning to Implementation' was moderated by Patrick Child, Head of Mission Climate Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030, and featured keynote speakers including Christoph Kuhn, Deputy Director General of the European Investment Bank (EIB). Mayor Rakovec and Tomaž Lanišek presented to a packed room how the preparation of the Climate City Contract of Kranj, i.e. the action plan, the financial plan and the cooperation with the local community, was carried out, how the COK intends to achieve its goals and what challenges it sees in doing so.

In the afternoon, the Mayor also attended the first meeting of the Cities Mission Mayors Advisory Group, which brings together 17 mayors from the Mission cities to join forces, share insights and experiences, with the aim of actively shaping the future governance and development of cities - not only those in the Mission, but the EU and beyond.
